CAPTAIN DAN HAESCHE
Capt Dan Haesche was raised on the shores of Long Island sound by a seafaring family of fisherman, none of whom fly fished. A salty lifestyle made way for an avid, adventurous young angler pursuing both Striped and Largemouth Bass.
Upon relocating out to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado in 1998 he quickly transitioned into the art of fly casting, and was instantly smitten with this new and exciting practice! Along with fly casting and fishing comes a new approach, one finds themselves searching for a deeper understanding of the rivers, insect hatches and how it is all intricately connected.
After eight wonderful seasons as a fishing guide in Colorado, an opportunity to guide Alaska presented itself.
This being a lifelong dream, he seized the moment and headed north!
Seasonal guiding left winters free to chase saltwater flats species with an old friend in Islamorada, in the Florida Keys.
As this style of sight fishing and fly fishing in the clear shallow water of the Florida Keys, to advanced predatory game fish is surely the pinnacle of the sport.. The incredible challenge finding success on a hand tied fly, as he simply states “offers for me the ultimate reward in fly fishing”.
Therefore Capt Dan is absolutely obsessed with the intricacies of the flats species that roam the Florida Keys and the dynamic ecosystems they inhabit!
Purchasing a technical poling skiff in 2013 and constantly tinkering, optimizing, and just plain fishing the Florida Keys gives Dan a keen sense of awareness on the water. After guiding anglers into trophy trout for 17 years, he started Golden Glare Fly Charters in the Florida Keys early 2016. Here he specializes in light tackle spin and fly casting instruction. Teaching the art form of fly fishing and all details encompassing this unique style of flats fishing that the Florida Keys are known for.
